Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 11th November 2012

On Remembrance Sunday 2012 our church held services in the morning and evening incorporating an act of Remembrance.  All the money collected from freewill offerings made during both services was donated to the British Legion Poppy Appeal.  The donation made to the Poppy Appeal which also includes funds raised from the Poppy Collection box was £227.97.

A big "Thank You" to all those who contributed to the collections.

Bournemouth Spiritualist Church also made an additional donation of £20 for a Poppy in the Flanders Poppy Memorial Garden at the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium.  Each cardboard Poppy donated has been placed in the Poppy Garden with a message and will remain in the garden for a year.  The message on our Poppy reads:

In remembrance, honour and pride.

In spirit, forever they reside.

The Menin Gate Memorial was opened in 1927 by the people of Ypres in recognition of all those British and Commonwealth soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of Belgium and have no known grave.  On every day of the year at 8.00pm, the road which runs under the memorial is closed and buglers from the local Fire Brigade sound the Last Post, which is followed by the observance of one minute's silence.

SNU National Healing Day

To celebrate Spiritual Healing,we joined with Spiritualist churches across the country and held special healing services.

The format was similar to our usual divine service but with a healing theme and twenty minutes of each service devoted to healing, with twenty eight people in all receiving healing during the two services. There was a beautiful atmosphere in the church during the healing sessions and everyone agreed both services were special occasions. We hope this will be an annual event.
